2016 Fortuna Show – ADS Award Winners

This was a small show with 138 entries and 233 stems. Since a number of the awards were not given, I’ll use a single post instead of three separate posts to show all the award winners. Fortuna is a California city near the coast about a five hour drive north of San Francisco. As you drive north and enter the downtown area from the south, you see this sign welcoming to Fortuna.

This is set on a traffic island. I had to park a block away and come back to get this picture. At the right you see a daffodil.

I don’t know if this is a long term display or whether it was put up in recognition of the daffodil show. It’s nice to know though that the daffodil show is important to the town. Anyway, the results were a little surprising this year. Let’s just say that the judges made some unusual decisions.

  1. Kirby, thanks as usual for sharing the photos, and congratulations to you and to all who won awards.

  2. Ditto Mary Lou’s comment, Kirby!  The Fortuna sign is very cool — very artistic!  Thanks for going to the effort to get the photo for us. An interesting thing happened to an exhibitor in Winchester , Ky this weekend. When she registered for a hotel room, the price had DOUBLED from what she saw a month ago on the internet.  When she asked, the clerk said it was an “event weekend” in Winchester, and the pricing goes up for the higher demand event weekends. There were two events in Winchester that weekend, and one was the Daffodil Show!

To anybody who bought from Rod Barwick (Glenbrook Bulb Farm) before he quit mailing overseas, check your seedling numbers to see if you, too, might have the lovely Canavenice.  He has 3 registered miniatures starting with “cana” which he sent out gratis under seedling number, Canapanama, Canavenices and Canasuez.  You may have one of these!
