2018 Livermore Show – Standard Daffodil Awards

The 2018 Livermore Daffodil Show was at Alden Lane Nursery on March 3 and 4. I don’t know how the season behaved for other exhibitors, but for me it started early but proceeded slowly with only a few more blooms on successive days. This year, Harold Koopowitz was out of the country so we missed the miniatures that he and Marilynn Howe usually bring to the Livermore show. This year’s show had a bloom count of 538 which I believe is slightly below average. We were lacking Bozievich and Havens collections and some of the 5-stem standard collections that we usually have. In this posting I’ll go over the ADS award winners for standards in the order in which they appear on the show report form.  If an award is not mentioned, it means there were no entries.

Spotts Collection of 5 Ribbon winner

The show report form has not yet been revised to add the new Spotts Award for green daffodils, so I’m adding it at the end of this post. This is a new award beginning with the 2018 season for a collection of 5 different daffodils where green is the predominant color in either the perianth and/or corona. The collection may be 5 different standards or 5 different miniatures. We had entries of 5 standards and 5 miniatures in our show.  The winning exhibitor, fittingly, was Bob Spotts. Unless there was also a winner at the Washington/Opelousas, Louisiana show, Bob is the very first winner of the award named in his honor. I forgot to take a close-up of the winning exhibit, so you’ll have to make do with a zoomed in selection of Bob holding his exhibit. The winners was the 5 standards. Flowers are:
Back: 1-42 7G-GGY, 1-110 3G-G, 1-23 7G-GGY;
Front: 1-1 5G-GGO, 1-24 3G-G.
