2013 Livermore Show – Premier Miniature Collection of 24 Stems

Below are the individual blooms for the “Premier Miniature Collection of 24 Stems” exhibited by Harold Koopowitz and Marilynn Howe at the 2013 Livermore, California show.

All 24 stems are seedlings hybridized by Harold and Marilynn. One of the 24 received the Mini-Gold Award, which Kirby Fong will photograph and describe. Also, Img 0878 received the Robert Jerrell local award donated by Tom Stettner for “Best Pink Daffodil”.

We members of the Northern California Daffodil Society feel privileged to see these newly created miniatures  most of which have never been seen before.

Kirby Fong will do a high quality photo of the entire collection, but I am including my own photos to show the individual blooms as they were arranged.  Since I carried each stem to another room to photograph them, my re-aligning of stems was not as precise as Harold and Marilynn’s efforts.

I included extra photos for some stems to help show colors or other features better.

Congratulations to Harold and Marilynn!

Ben

  1. Harold and Marilynn,

What a FABULOUS range of exceptional Miniatures. Choice and truly superb examples of stunning Miniatures. Probably the finest all seedling Premier I’ve ever seen. I am so glad that I wasn’t competing against it!!!!! :-)

Sincere congratulations to you both on raising the Miniature bar up to the stratosphere. Well, well done!

  2. Well done Harold, I am envious of the colour.

    Superb minis.

  3. Congrats Harold & Marilynn !! What an amazing array of little ones. The Jerrell award was amazing indeed!! Robin would be delighted!!

  4. This collection was simply stunning.  The pink perianths and orange-flushed perianths were amazing.  Ben, you have done a terrific job of capturing the individual blooms so that those who were unable to be present can appreciate what Harold and Marilynn have achieved.  I myself have a bouquet of several of these stems on my kitchen table at the moment, and they continue to inspire awe with their beauty.  Lucky me!

  5. What a beautiful assortment of colors and forms you’ve achieved.  Congratulations, Harold and Marilynn!  Well done!

  6. Harold and Marion,

Congratulations – what amazing strides you have made in creating miniatures with ‘colour’ – I’m just green with envy! I hope you will soon come to RHS London shows and compete for the Blanchard and the Alec Gray trophies – I’ve been having it too easy in recent years! We all want to see the Best’ in London. The Early Competition is on March 26-27 – I hope you will have something left – maybe in the Fridge? Would love to see you both and your flowers there.

  7. How would you pick ONE bloom out of that group as first place??

  8. Harold and Marilynn,

Your IMG numbers should be changed to OMG.

    Loved the color.

  9. The range of colors in this collection is unbelievable! And thank you, Ben, for making  the extraordinary effort to get those excellent individual pictures of each bloom, so that all the daffodil world can really see these flowers.

  11. To put it in perspective, Harold and Marilynn also entered other large collections of their minis.  So, hard as it may be to fathom,  these were only a small portion of the delights they exhibited.  We are fortunate indeed to have our Livermore show at the peak of their SoCal bloom season.

  12. Amazing blooms. The range of colours is to true inspiration to the rest of us. The div 11 are absolutely stunning. I look forward to seeing more photos of your blooms in the near future.

  13. Thank you, Kirby.  Curious does your show have a collection of 5 historics?

  14. Ceci,

Yes, the Livermore show does have a class for a collection of 5 historic daffodils, but no one put in an entry this year. We have had historic collection entries in the past and at our Murphys show.

  15. While you’re marveling over the colors and split coronas in the exhibit, there’s another unusual flower in Img 1024, a reverse bicolor miniature tazetta.  There aren’t many reverse bicolors among standard size tazettas, much less miniatures.  This collection really demonstrates some new possibilities for miniatures.

  16. Ceci,

Actually, Ben photographed each individual bloom along with a photo of the total collection and wrote this post.  It was his way to pay homage to Harold and Marilynn’s beautiful exhibit.  Kirby does our “official” show photos and I think he did a wonderful job of grouping the show winners by themes in his three posts.
