In this second of three posts I show the standard collections that won American Daffodil Society awards.
The Youth Collection of 5 Ribbon was won by the exhibit by Nick Swanson. The ‘Barnesgold’ was the best bloom in the Youth Section and was our reserve champion bloom for the show. The flowers in the collection are – Back: ‘Crackington’ 4Y-O, ‘New Penny’ 3Y-Y, ‘Barnesgold’ 1Y-Y; Front: ‘Rose Lake’ 2W-P, ‘Lady Diana’ 2W-W.
The Classics Collection of 5 Ribbon went to the exhibit by yours truly. The flowers are – Back: ‘Arkle’ 1Y-Y (1968), ‘Barrett Browning’ 3WWY-O (1945), ‘Ceylon’ 2Y-O (1943); Front: ‘Daydream’ 2Y-W (1960), ‘Panache’ 1W-W (1962).
The Red-White-Blue Ribbon is for the best collection of five American-bred standards. Exhibitor of the winning collection was Bob Spotts. The flowers are – Back: 13-2-16 1WWY-Y, 13-2-2 2Y-PPY, 13-2-4 1Y-Y; Front: ‘Mesa Verde’ 12G-GGY (Spotts), 13-2-28 11aY-GGO.
The Purple Ribbon is for the best collection of 5 standards excluding the Historic collection. Exhibitor of the winning collection was yours truly with a Division 2 collection. The flowers are – Back: ‘Spartan Gold’ 2Y-Y, ‘Oregon Pioneer’ 2Y-P, Miller 03-12 2YYW-Y; Front: Havens OS4/4A, ‘Banker’ 2Y-O.
The ribbons for best set of three intermediates and best collection of 5 intermediates are recently created ADS awards; that’s why you haven’t seen them in previous years. The best intermediate collection was exhibited by Bob Spotts. The flowers are – Back: 13-2-27 1Y-Y, 13-2-20 1Y-O; Front: 13-2-21 3WWG-GYO, 13-2-22 2Y-O, 13-2-29 3W-YPP.
The Havens Award is for the best collection of 12 standards from at least 3 RHS division 5 through 10. Exhibitor of the winning collection was Bob Spotts. The Bozievich Award is for the best collection of 12 standards from at least 4 RHS divisions. Exhibitor of the winning collection was yours truly. The Throckmorton Award is for the best collection of 15 standards with 15 different RHS classifications. A classification consists of the division number and the color code.
