robin and daffodils

I had a constant companion to-day while packing flowers for the London Show. This is Robin the 5th, he demands food from my hand regularly – and even takes some off for a little lady robin in the garden, I think he’s trying to entice her!
This is the fifth robin I’ve had coming to hand over the years and he doesn’t make strange with grandchildren or adult visitors so long as they have crumbs in hand.

  1. Hi Brian, That is very nice – you have the birds just eating out of your hand! Thanks for the photo. Now, we shall hope that you find the daffodil show judges so cooperative! Dave Liedlich

  2. Hi Brian and other Bird-lovers,

What a wonderful photo, Brian. We don’t have redbreasted robins in New Zealand but I have had flirtations with our smallest native bird – the fantail ( piwakawaka). These frequent our gardens and gully in large numbers. I used to sit quietly in the gully with crumbs and seed in my palm. They would come very close perching on the branches and looking at what I had to offer. But they never came to eat and would flutter off speaking to each other in bird language. Then I made a discovery – fantails are carnivores! And I think they were saying “Bloody idiot doesn’t he realize that why we follow him around in the garden is to see what insects he disturbs!”

PS Brian, your flowers look very good in the box – best of luck in London.
