Daffodil flag flying in Minnesota!

My ‘Little Gem’ has opened, so that qualifies for putting out the daffodil flag here in Minnesota!  It will be awhile before much of anything else blooms, but I’ll take what I can get.  Our show is in 4 1/2 weeks (May 6-7), so the timing may actually be pretty good this near, not requiring weeks and weeks of refrigeration.

Happy spring!

  1. Funny but we still have daffodil varieties blooming down in the weeds here in Northeast Texas. Daffodil first blooms were in late Nov. early Dec. A neighbor bought those “clearance sale” bulbs on leftover bags and or she finally got around to planting her bulbs back about Feb. 15th or so. Anyway she has a few dozen “Carlton” that just started blooming this week. Here in Texas, across the south, you can dig the very early blooming Tazetta’s. Keep them in mesh bags in the garage. Then plant them about 6 weeks before your scheduled local daffodil shows. They will shoot up out of the ground and varieties that should bloom in early December, will be in full bloom the middle of March if I plant them the last days of Jan. They will then skip a year of blooming due to the late planting but you could stagger your planting of bulbs over four or five months if land is not an issue if you wanted late blooming daffodils.
