During the Judges Refresher on the way to Oakwood Daffodils on Monday, the topic was oriented toward Wister and Pannill Award recipients. We polled the audience about use of these cultivars. When I read off Ice Follies, Bill Pannill took the microphone and stated something to the effect that “Ice Follies is the best daffodil ever hybridized.”

I think Harold Koopowitz was the defender of Ice Folliles on Daffnet a few years back. He said something like it is fertile both ways, tall, early, healthy, multiplies well, and goes through a color change. What more could you ask for?
And I add: With all the daffodils I have lost over the years, I still have Ice Follies!

  2. My wife is always onto me for asking “Can you show it?”, so we need more landscape plants. Ice Follies is usually the first up in the spring, and is a welcome sign that winter has ended. It was among the first daffodils I even planted, and it will always be in my garden.

I have to divide it this year, so if anyone wants some bulbs let me know.
