Dear Nancy and Mary Lou,
Half an hour ago, electricity returned to our home, and Internet became operative again. First mails downloaded are those expressing your concern and sympathy. I am very touched and grateful.
Fortunately, in our case, the earthquake meant only a big scary moment, specially for our two girls, who had not lived through one before. No damages at all in our house, but many of the older streets in Valdivia awaked a little like Beirut, and the authorities are beggining the evaluation of the damages.
All our relatives in central Chile are equally safe, and the only (but sensible) loss is the old farm house where I spent part of my summers as a child, that collapsed last night.
All the best, and have the best time at Murphys.
