Just a reminder . . .

Can You Help?

There are quite a few “Possible Intermediates” which are missing measurements, either because it wasn’t recorded on the Application to Register, or the cultivar was registered when measurements weren’t routinely recorded.  If you grow any of these cultivars, would you please measure the diameter of the flower and send the results to me at title=.  We’ll use the average measurement to determine if a cultivar belongs on the Intermediates List.  This will help any confusion the judges may have.  Thank you.

  1. Mary Lou,

I have a lot of them, but some bloomed in February and are now past bloom and collapsed. I’ll try to help with others that are still alive. You just need the diameter of the flower, correct? Not all the measurements?

‘American Banker’, ‘Cayenne’, ‘Elrond’, Green Pearl’, ‘Pogo’, ‘Rimksi’, ‘Treasure Waltz’, ‘Urchin’, ‘Mighty Mite’, and ‘Tom Terrific’.

Our Ice age is ending today. I’ll see what I can find in the flower beds shortly. I had some of the others but over the years lost them.

  2. Mary Lou,

I have ‘Cayenne’ as 66mm in diameter. This is one of three that has been down for 2 years. The other two have collapsed and are heavy with seed pod as I use them for hybridizing “miniatures” I hope. They were all similar in size and color.

  3. I have the following and will measure them when they come up next month.  Daphne, Dreamlight, and Rimkski.  I’ll try to watch for the others at the shows I go to.

  4. Mary Lou,

I toured my garden today and the only thing I have left in bloom of the daffodils that needed diameter measurements is ‘Mighty Mite’ which is 77mm. All the remainder are either bloomed and now faded or a long way into the future.

  5. Thanks Rose, I appreciate it.  And Clay, I’ve made a note about ‘Mighty Mite’ and if any late ones appear, I’d appreciate any measurements.

  6. Mary Lou,

I do not have measurements but I grow both ‘Bambi’ and ‘Whippersnapper’ and both are accurately on the NZNDS Intermediate list.
    ‘Suffragette’ (Cull’) is too big.

  7. Clay Higgins wanted me to send you the dimensions of my ‘Mighty Mite,’ which he measured at roughly 70mm. He also said to mention that it won Best Intermediate in the Barco, NC show today, information I’m happy to pass on…

  8. Thank you, Nancy.  And congratulations on winning the Best Intermediate Ribbon!!  I’ve added the measurements to the list.

  9. Mary Lou,
Who put together the Suggested Intermediate list that appears here? http://daffodilusa.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/ADS_Intermediates_2016.pdf

Exhibitors need a list of all the flowers that got dropped from the list. Lissome, Fairy Circle, well, there are a bunch of them. It seems kinda sneaky to me to just eliminate them with no announcement or conversation, just a “revised list”. Is there a committee associated with these changes? The other issue is that there are a lot of flowers registered under 80mm in Daffseek which didn’t get updated, tho Merlin was added. Dan Bellinger’s flowers are among them, but there are a bunch more.

I think we need some details of who made the decisions affecting the changes made.

    Thanks,
    Suzy

  10. Suzy, the list you referenced is from DaffSeek.  I don’t know of any that were dropped from the list.  There are a bunch for which no measurements were given at registration, and they were on a “possible” intermediates list, and as far as I know, they still are.  That’s why I asked for people to send in the measurements, to end the confusion. ‘Lissome’ has probably won more Intermediate Ribbons than any other I can think of.  There are no measurements available.  So please send them in.  I’d be happy to see a list of those flowers registered under 80mm in Daffseek which aren’t listed as intermediates (Div. 1-4 and 11).   A list of all new registrations with diameters under 80mm is sent to Mitch Carney (Intermediates Chair) who reports at the Board meeting.  These are then added to the Intermediates List.
