Colin was one of the first Kiwi breeders to chase the bright red / pinks and his efforts go way back to the 1970,s . COLIN,S JOY was registered in 1989 but has a seedling number 4 – 76 , indicating that Colin was actively hybridising from about 1970 .COLIN,S JOY was a sensation when first shown , with it,s deep band of solid red / pink .Now 40 years on he is still producing great seedlings with excellent form and exceptional colour .Thanks Colin for these photos of some recent seedlings .
NEON BLAZE — ( Presidential Pink — x — Quasar ) reg 2001 is now grown and shown by all our top exhibitors and has strong colour contrasts with a very clean white perianth and well coloured cup . Proving to be a good parent also .
FIERY PEAK — reg 2009 , same parentage as Neon Blaze , is also very well coloured .
ULTIMATUM , bred Neon Blaze — x — Wildstar , reg 2011 , — has created considerable interest when it hs been shown and is definitely a rising star . Well regarded by Peter Ramsay .
OAKRIDGE , is a sibling to Ultimatum and again very bright .
RUBY LUSTRE , – Culmination — x — Presidential Pink , reg 2006 , is my personal favourite . Rather late season and not as large as some , it has a sparkling white quality perianth and glowing cup .
MELSTAR –, –Dailmanach — x — Presidential Pink , reg 2006 was named after a granddaughter .A big flower at the recent Nelson National attracted many .
HOT SECRET — , Quasar — x — Culmination , – reg 2008 is , for me , a little earlier than some of his colour and is a very attractive flower .
AISLING , — ( Colins Joy – x – Eclat ) — x — ( Eclat – x – Cherryrim ) , reg 2007 , — A very attractive band of deep colour on a smallish flatcup .
C C – 10 – 12 , bred Neon Blaze – x – Valley Blaze , – colour and form . .
C C – 38 – 11 , bred Neon Blaze – x – Hot Secret .
C C – 28 – 09 colour code 11 Y – P R — WOW ! . >Bred from two Crotty flowers , Placid Sky ( 2YYW – P ) . – x – Peach Glow ( 11 Y – P ) .. Colin commented possibly his brightest split , hard to photograph but cup – split colour is almost r / p . WOW . ! !
C C 32 – 06 , – 11 W – PR , to be registered as SUNSET SKY . Bred from two sdlgs , Ironstone ( 11 W – YP ) – x – Zingy ( 2 W – P ) , good form and strong red / pink split .
SAN JOSE – 4 W – PR , Bred Tropic Isle – x – Colins Joy , — sdlg no 28 – 94 . Colin is not crossing as many doubles as he has previously , but he has red / pinks in Div 4 with this neat , bright flower . Doing well in my garden , giving a little pollen and a good multiplier and strong grower .
