Midwest regional meeting Saturday, October 21, 2017

Greetings, everyone. I hope everyone has been able to get outside and enjoy the beautiful fall weather. Here in central Kentucky we have had three tropical systems rain themselves out over the state, so our grass is lush and green. It should make a dramatic color contrast when the leaves start turning.

Here are the details regarding the ADS Midwest Regional meeting to be held this Saturday, October 21 at Wegerzyn Gardens in Dayton, Ohio. Our program will include a judges’ refresher and discussion on intermediates, a regional business meeting, an update on the ADS Fall Forum and Daffodil Show to be held in Cincinnati next month, and the always popular bulb swap. Lunch (and breakfast) are pot luck, so please plan to bring a dish to share.

We will have breakfast/meet-and-greet from 9 to 10 AM. The program will begin at 10:00 AM and last to 2:30 PM. Lunch will be pot luck, please bring a dish to share. The fee for the refresher is $5.00.

The bulb swap is always a highlight of the meeting. Here are some guidelines:

  • We usually package bulbs one to five or six per package, depending on number of bulbs and size of bulbs. Make sure your bulbs are labelled with division and color code so we can sort them effectively.
  • You do not have to bring daffodil bulbs, other plants are fine, as are other daffodil things or other garden items. I have gotten some sensational daylilies at this bulb swap in past years.
  • If you are a new attendee to the meeting, you get to pick at the bulb swap first. There are many experienced daffodil growers at this meeting, so if you will let us know ahead of time where your interests are (exhibition vs. garden, specific colors or forms) we can help you select which bulbs you are likely to enjoy.

And lastly, directions:

1301 E. Siebenthaler Ave., Dayton, OH 45414

The park is located a short distance from I-75, north of downtown. Exit at exit 57. Take Wagner Ford Road west one block. Turn right onto N. Dixie Drive, then be prepared to make your first left quickly onto E. Siebenthaler. The park entrance will be on your right just before you cross Stillwater River.

I look forward to seeing everyone on Saturday.
