OTAKI 2015 , More Premiers .

The  slow ,  late  start to  the  2015  show  season    ensured  that  the  largest  class  in  the  single  bloom  section  was  the  Div  8  ,  TAZETTA  class ,  with  16  entries  from  8  exhibitors  .  We  are  absolutely  spoilt  with  the  range  of  tazettas  we  have  to  choose  from  ;  a  big  thanks  to  the  breeding  skills  and  generosity  of  WILFRED  HALL ,  living  locally  and  a  great  supporter  of  all  our  area  shows .  Judge Claude  Poulsen  asked  if  we  would  like  this  big  class  judged  in  two  classes  ;  the  true  tazettas  with many  heads  per  stem  and  the  POETAZ ,  bigger  flowers  with  far  fewer  per  stem . Wilf  assisted  in  the  division  and  we  all  agreed  the  judging  was  more  logical and  the  exercise  quite  informative  regarding  the  development  of  the  tazetta  hybrids .

Pigeon  Post   –  –  All  through  the  picking  season  ,I  drive  past  a  small  native  bush  reserve  ,  beside  the  Ohau  river  .Frequently  spotted  in  the  trees were  the  native  NZ  pigeon  ,  KERERU ,   big  heavy  birds  ,  very  attractive  colouring  and  quite  use  to  visitors  as  there  is  a  popular  swimming  hole  in  the  river .

  1. Thank you for posting the pictures John great to see them on a grey grim day in northern Scotland.

  2. Thanks  for  the  nice  words  Robert .I  have  an  appreciation  of  the  weather  in  your  area  as  my  McLennan  descendants  left  Loch  Alsh  about  1770  for  Nova  Scotia  and  to  land  in  NZ  in  1856 .My  parents  have  visited  the  area  and  up  to  the  Orkneys  ;  beautifully  wild  country  but  cold  and  dark  in  the  long  winters . I,m  late  with  the  show  results ; busy  in  the  season  and  then  computer  problems  but  enjoying  a  fast  machine  and  new  programs  now  .   Just  a  few  shows  to  go  –  please  enjoy  them .

    John .
