South Island National Show

Hello Everyone, more photos from the South Island National Show last weekend. It was a great show and exhibitors did their best to bring lots of flowers to give Christchurch some cheer after the trauma of earthquakes over the last year. As usual we enjoyed seeing our daffodil friends again

It was good to see so many Christchurch people enjoying the show. Entry was free and it was combined with a scheme called Seeds for Canterbury. Free plants and seeds were given away – these had been donated by New Zealanders and also included fertiliser and potting mix. So many gardens have been wrecked by grey clinging liquifaction which rose from the ground by the ton, smothering everything and it would appear, not much use for anything.

Apache Chief shown by Bill Cowie was premier O-O/R. It is a stunning variety with true orange perianth. Blossom Lady 4W-O was reserve Champion Bloom – again for Bill Cowie who had a very good show. Eskedos, shown by Alistair and Joan Davey was premier Intermediate. As you can see, a very neat little flower. These are all New Zealand raised flowers which daffodil growers from elsewhere may not be familiar with.

Some of our photos were not a success – if anyone from the NDS took better ones please get in touch!
Regards, Denise.
