The Garden Club of Virginia Show

The 83rd annual Garden Club of Virginia Show was hosted this year in Hampton, Virginia, by the Huntington Garden Club on April 5 and 6.  It was a well-attended show with 109 exhibitor entering 811 exhibits totaling 1713 stems.  We were fortunate to have present a professional magazine photographer who helped me with some photos of the show winners.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Gold Ribbon winner was ‘Cape Point’ exhibited by Dianne Spence.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Rose Ribbon for the best standard seedling went to Mitch and Kate Carney for seedling 05-11-01:      George Gershwin x Vh9/1 Havens.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The White ribbon for a vase of three ‘Clouded Yellow’ was awarded to Karen Cogar, who also won the Purple Ribbon, the Red, White & Blue Ribbon, and the Best Intermediate along with many others awards.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Purple Ribbon was the Division 2 collection with ‘Louise Randall’, ‘Clouded Yellow’, ‘Great Gatsby’, ‘Birky’, and ‘American Banker’.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Red, White & Blue collection featured ‘Conestoga’, ‘River Crossing’, ‘High Command’, ‘Cinnamon Ring’, and ‘Aircastle’.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Best Intermediate was ‘American Banker.’

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Ryan Potter won the Youth Best Bloom with ‘Lieke’.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Best Small Grower Award went to Anne Bland for ‘Altun Ha’.

 

With nineteen blue ribbons, Peggy Bowditch won the Silver Ribbon.

For the first time, the show included a photography section.  Carolyn Noland received the Wells Knierim Ribbon for her entry, “The First Daffodil of Spring”.

Next year’s GCV show is planned for March 28, 2018, in Richmond, VA.
