Two Recent Shows in the Central Region

Here are videos of casual walkarounds at the Midwest Daffodil Society Show at the Chicago Botanical Garden on April 30-May 1 and the show in Sheboygan, Wisconsin the following weekend which was put on by the Town and Garden Garden Club of Sheboygan with support from the Midwest Daffodil Society.

These were done with my iPhone with no preparation. I apologize for the audio and a few times that I misspoke or left something out.

It was agreed that this was one of the worst seasons in the Chicago area for daffodils in recent memory, though we at least didn’t have to cancel. A nice, but small, show resulted. We went from very cold to 70 degree days to torrential rains to mid-40s to hail to 81 degrees to mid-40s, to more rain, etc., etc., etc. Yuck!

While I usually refrigerate gobs of flowers in preparation, vases on the garage floor were sufficient this time.

The Photo Division was large and very successful, but I left out a walk past half of the show, have spent too much time on the coloring table. And, as always, our Design Division was superb. Attendance on Saturday was light, due to weather, but it picked up on Sunday.

Sheboygan:

This was only the second show at this venue, and it had a wealth of beautiful blooms. Ray Rogers has a growing group of potential ADS members in the Sheboygan area. Between Ray and Nancy Pilipuf  most of the standard collections were represented here.

More will be published here about these shows “soon.”
