VDS Show at Richmond, Lewis Ginter Gardens

Hi Daffnet,

I’m passing along information on the Virginia Daffodil Society Daffodil Show held today a Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens in Richmond.  I want to say that I didn’t have my best camera with me today.  I’m not good with my best camera and with my second camera, I’m really really bad.

According to Skip Ford there were 914 Stems – Just short of the Barco Show.  Janet Hickman and Karen Cogar gave me stiff completion. I was a little disappointed as I lost the Quinn, the Bozievich, and the Red White and Blue even when I won the Silver Ribbon with 25 Blue Ribbons.  Jane was just behind at 22 Blue Ribbons.  I’ve been saying for years that I’m going to slow down.  Maybe the time is right to hand Janet the Crown.  Janet won the Quinn, Karen Cogar won the Red White and Blue over my all Seedling selection.  The Red White and Blue was also the Purple Ribbon.  The included Ouzel, Vineland, Rapture, Straight Arrow, and Perky.  All division 6 daffodils

‘Dik Dik’ was the best intermediate exhibited by Karen Cogar.  The one in the center.

The Gold Ribbon was Centerfold 3w-YYR.  I assumed it was Janet Hickman as the exhibitor regardless of the fact that the person helping me didn’t write down the name of the owner.

The Mini Gold Ribbon was won my Richard Ezell with a new introduction by the name of ‘Suzy Q’.  I gave Richard the bulbs last fall as it was one of my new introductions.  A very show worthy “and very small” daffodil.  I have a ‘Suzy Q’ in both my winning Watrous Award and Bankhead Award at Richmond.  I’m still wondering why I didn’t get my own ‘Suzy Q’ three stem entry into the show.

The White Ribbon was my Conestoga 2W-GYO.

The Rose Ribbon was my seedling Golden Topaz X Golden Strand.  Some of my pictures didn’t turn out good.  I usually use a Cannon Rebel T4i.  But today I only have an old Sony Marica, that can take good pictures, but I never know when.  Thanks Clay
