10W-Y – Strong Color Contrast

Due to late hot and dry weather in September, watering pots in the greenhouses began on October the first. I seem to be a week to two late with blooms based on previous years.

This is V05-134-19 which is a strongly contrasted 10W-Y. It is a cross of [(N. b. obesus x Nylon group) x N. c. foliosus ‘Peter Watkins] x Mitimoto.

First blooming in 2009, I now have enough to try six bulbs outside in both rows and raised beds for the 2014 season. This has a lot of N. cantabricus foliosus in the complex parentage but also some obesus as well as a dash of conspicuus. ‘Nylon’ is on both sides as a grandparent from the Zinkowski seedling side as well as through Rod Barwick’s ‘Mitimoto’. Not certain about outside winter hardiness but it surely is a pretty thing with nice form and a really strong color contrast!

  1. Congratulations. The best contrast I have seen in a bicolor bulbocodium!
