Bulb Information, Growing Daffodils

Hi Everyone,
I was very virtuous on Saturday and went out at 6am to do my daily digging session before it got too hot. Virtuous because I really wanted to save my energy for golf later in the morning. The bulbs are lifting easily this year and are large and firm so digging is really a pleasure.
I dug for an hour and a half then left the bulbs in trays to get their sun curing. I had a good game of golf though faded after 12 holes. Golfers will understand that having 8 pars and four bogies for 33 stablefords after 12 holes is not bad. The heat was the problem with a recorded temperature of over 35 degrees ( thats about 95+ Farenheit.) When I went to bag the bulbs in the cool of the evening many had taken on this lovely deep red colour. I had cooked them. Sun drying is beneficial but not on a hot day when the grower is out having fun.

    Cooked bulbs are for free, if the authorities will allow mush through customs. Actually I checked the bulbs today and they are only cooked on what was the upper surface. I think the reddest part of the whole scenario was my face.

  2. Lesley and I often think of the Flanders and Swan song “Mad Dogs and Englishmun, Work in the Mid Day Sun!” when we are lifting bulbs.  Well David you have given a new slant to it “Mad Dogs and Golfers play in the Canterbury Sun” .  Pity it doesn’t rhyme.
