‘Multiple Vultures’ competition

Contributors and All,
I’m not quite sure how my simple remark about a ‘roadful’ of vultures being the only compensation for being snowed off an opportunity to see N. eugeniae,  turned into a competition ? Anyhow,  the lure of Keith’s kind offer of a prize of some jonquil bulbs and Daffnet’s spirit of fun has resulted in more than 20 suggestions.
Keith appointed me as sole judge, but that is an awesome responsibility  :-),  and I am grateful for the suggestions by Donna and Sandra that I needed help. In fact I had already decided to select a shortlist of 3 and ask for votes – 3 points for 1st choice; 2 for 2nd and 1 for 3rd.
I liked ‘Hungry Horde’ from Phyllis and ‘Volley’ from Linda. ‘Snoffirgs’ (Michael Burrell), ‘Repugnance’ (Donna)and ‘Regurgitation’ (Ethel Smith)  had a sort of nasty appeal but the three that turned on my imagination and on which I’d like to have your votes in order of preference are, in alphabetical order :-

Abracadaver (Denis Daley) – very clever, shiversome, would be good even without the Abra.

Carry-on (John Pearson) – In Irish parlance this can mean a wildly undisciplined happening or situation which         seems appropriate to the fighting ,floundering and flailing of vultures at a corpse.

Committee (Bill Lee) – There’s a short story in this suggestion! Consider a possible agenda for a Committee of     vultures when carion is scarce and they have to select from live animals to survive – calls of nature in the wild         could take on a new excitement as someone already suggested, if humans get on the menu.

Closing date for votes – Midnight (whereever you are) on 16th Jan. Thanks to all who participated, now let’s wrap it up and get back to daffodils.

  1. Hi Brian,
    Here’s my vote.
#1 – 3 points  Abracadaver  That is probably from my enjoyment of things like Hobbits and Harry Potter and magicians and fairy dust.
#2 – 2 points Committee  Brings to mind all sorts of flutterings and machinations.
#3 – 1 point  Carry-On  I remember the movie “Carry On Nurse”  where a daffodil was used as a thermometer.  You neglected to mention that as a good reason for daffodil people to vote for this one.  Oh. Wait.  Maybe that is a bad reason.
Thought about a secret vote, but what difference would it make.
Boy!  What we will do when there are no daffodils blooming in most places.  We amuse ourselves with a contest like this!  Great Fun!!
