Is there a reason that that happens (blooming when very short)? I am a rank amateur living in a new location. I planted a few daffs my first fall in the house (2006)and more this fall (2007). I’ve been waiting to see how the 2006 plantings have done and my Rijnveld’s Early Sensation started blooming January 9th, but the stems were very short. I thought perhaps some soil deficiency or the high winds we have here might explain, but now that the blooms are fading height looks pretty normal. SO, is this just due to odd juxtaposition of warm and cool temps, etc.?

Hi Debbie, The Wee Bee daffodil is a miniature. Flower blooms can be encouraged to bloom on short stems. I am not a professional grower and their secrets may just be that! I know that the cut blooms can be encouraged to stay unbloomed or slightly closed for a time. Don’t know how they do that either. Roses can be made to grow and bloom on very long stems too. Maybe it is all in the wrist! Deborah
