Sugarbush drift

I think that is going to be the correct name. Here is part of the drift. Really nice cultivar for the yard. Will have some for trade about June I would expect:-)) Thanks for checking that out. Been searching names and photos on Daffseek till I can’t see straight. Keith Kridler

  1. Sugarbush was my first thought too – they were gorgeous here this year too!

  2. That’s a nice looking drift, Keith. I grew it once, but lost it in one of my moves. I’d like to say I recognized it right off, but while it looked familiar, I used the query field in DaffSeek to search for a 7 W-YYW to refresh my memory. Isn’t DaffSeek great??? :-)
Thanks for all the great photos you post of drifts of daffodils and for the stories you tell. I could just see Shawn smashing jonquilla flowers onto anything available. :-)

  3. Yes, this is definitely Sugarbush.  To me, the smell is like that of a freesia.  Very distinct!

I have hybrids of Quick Step onto  Altruist that have a similar scent.  Also I was just enjoying the first blooms yesterday from Brent and Becky’s Beautiful Eyes, Double Smiles, and Sweet love.  All smelled great, it seemed like at least the first of these three had that freesia type smell also,  I am not much of an expert on jonquilla crosses but am wondering if perhaps this distinct type of scent is from using certain Div. 3’s in the cross, as opposed to the more usual Div 1 or Div 2.  Undoubtedly it is not quite that simple, but there is defintely some scope for a diversity of fragrance type in jonquilla hybrids.
