More World Tour/Holland–Forcing daffs at Leenan

This is a photo of forcing procedures at W. F. Leenen & Sons. They grow their bulbs in trays of seashells. The black hose being stretched out is the irrigation hose used to water the racks from above. Our guide said the flowers stay clean, the shells wash off very easily, and they cut the flowers with the foliage to ship.

  1. The particular guide we were with at Leenen & Sons also mentioned that by growing the flowers without soil, they avoid certain phytosanitary restrictions.  I thought that was interesting.
