NDSNZ Annual

Hello Everyone,

The NDSNZ 2008 Annual is at the printers and will be dispatched in early August.  It is full of interesting daffodil news, research and cultural advice.  The feature article is written by Brian Duncan and is a comparison of his views on New Zealand daffodils and shows in 1984 with what he saw last year.  Very interesting reading!  The two Conventions held since the 2007 issue, that is the Australasian Convention of last year and the World Convention of 2008 receive indepth coverage.  The former is described by Nancy Tackett and Australian Graeme Davis, the latter has extensive coverage by Carol and Kevin Kerr while Michael Brown focuses on the flowers seen in England, Ireland and Holland.  There is a major section on daffodil breeding.  Wilf Hall reveals  his tazetta secrets, Graeme Miller, Denise McQuarrie, Colin Crotty and myself identify and describe their three most interesting recent seedlings, and Malcolm Wheeler provides a most interesting piece on his successful miniature breeding programme.  This theme is carried into the history section where Denise McQuarrie makes an important beginning on identifying New Zealand’s growing attraction to the little ‘uns.  John Hunter provides his usual erudite commentary on parts of New Zealand’s daffodil history while several successful growers share their knowledge of growing daffodils.  The issue is illustrate with 12 pages of full colour photos.

Overall a bumper issue that will be enjoyed by members.  And if you wish to obtain a copy plus other NDSNZ publications let me know and I will arrange for you to join!

Cheers,

Peter
