Hi Brenda,
Wow! That is long foliage. Did it grow in shade? Was the foliage perhaps trapped under something before it came into the light? Being hidden from the light could explain the length of the foliage, as it grew longer and longer “looking” for the sunlight.
If that theory doesn’t work, perhaps it was trying to get back to the Northern hemisphere!
