Dear All, It doesn’t seem that long ago that we did this, but the Olympics are only a few days away, so it’s time again for the competition! Same question as always with mega prize to the winner/winners.
The Questions. How many Gold Medals will Great Britain “Team GB” win?
How many Medals in Total will Team GB win? The Rules. Entries Open 3rd Aug 2008
Entries Close at beginning of Opening Ceremony 8th Aug 2008
One entry per email address, please.
Finale result as reported by the media at the end of the event.
The Prizes. Two packs of my Daffodil Notecards for each winner, these are now collectable items!
So lets have some fun, it will add to the excitement, entertainment and late nights / early mornings most of us will have to endure to support our teams.
Regards to all,
Ian :o)
Hello Ian & Daffnetters I predict (in complete ignorance) but by using logic that “Team GB” may win 7 gold medals and 32 medals. Note: 11 golds & 28 medals in 2000, 9 golds & 30 medals in 2004 7 golds & 32 medals in 2008 !!! How’s that? Margaret Seconi Wellington NZ (I am waiting very expectantly for my first ever seedlings to come out – 4 buds so far – cats & weather permitting them to flower). Today we had a lovely warm fine day and may even have a frost tonight. ‘Demo’ is out a month earlier than usual for me.
Ok, my wild guess is 8 golds and 29 medals for Great Britain, since I think the competition by the Chinese will be fierce and will indeed result in their increasing their share. I’d love to have the notecards, even though I know nothing about sports and our TV isn’t even working right now.

In reply to all those who were incredulous that our TV was not working: I got a new power strip and it is now working again. Apparently the thing conked out more than a month ago, since the TIVO info was gone, but we certainly never noticed the fact. Just goes to show what century we actually live in….or that we’re addicted to our computers but not our TV….anyway, I’m recording the opening ceremonies, and quite pleased with myself for having figured out how….
from a different planet….

There was a guest on N.P.R. the other day who can predict the medals a country will take in the Olympics based upon a number of factors. The man, incidentally, is trained as an economist. The factors he uses include the population size of the nation, the wealth and/or industrial capacity of that nation, past performances of that nation, and of course the home team advantage. I forget the numbers he predicted, but he did say that the U.S., Russia, and China would be the top three medal winners at this Olympics. As I recall, he said that China had 60 something medals at the last Olympics and he was predicting 80 something medals for them at this Olympics based on their current economic growth as well as the home team advantage. I did not hear his prediction for Great Britain.
