Div 14

I did go to the web exclusive special on B&B bulbs and confused by  Division 14 listed for miniature daffodils.  I must have missed something recently as i didn’t know that miniatures were now in a separate Division 14.  In the past miniatures conformed to the 13 divisions of standards except  for their specific traits…..  Is this Div 14 something new from the miniature symposium last weekend?
Please clarify.

Thank you,

Ceci

Dear Daffnetters who were on the World Tour in Holland:

Becky Heath, who is not on Daffnet, asked me to help get this word out to you:

When the World Tour groups visited Jan Pennings in Holland, they saw some of the
bulbocodiums and miniatures he was introducing/increasing. He promised that he
would send some of them so that people could get them, this fall.
To Becky’s surprise, they just showed up!
If you’re interested, go to the brentandbeckysbulbs.com website, click on spring/fall
catalog on the left, and at the top of the page in the green banner, click on
‘web exclusives.’

This is certainly the Autumn of the Miniatures, isn’t it!

No change, Ceci, just an error on the website. If you check the other minis that were listed, they are listed in their proper divisions. Miniatures are a subset in each division (each division that has minis, that is), just as are intermediates and historics.

  2. Hi Ceci,
There is no Div. 14 in the official daffodil classification system.  It’s just a way Brent and Becky distinguish their miniatures.  You’ll notice on their website that they include the correct division (in parentheses) in the description of the flower.  Miniatures are, as always, found in all the 13 divisions.

  3. Becky Heath answered my email inquiry on the topic, and she doesn’t know either.
Your guess is better than anything I was able to think up.

    Here’s what Becky said:
I honestly don’t know the answer to the questions about the Spiorot Jaw –
this is some ‘deal’ between Jan Pennings and some ADS members that were on
the world tour in the spring. They just showed up here and I was asked to
put them out for sale ‘because the ADS members would remember what they
    were’! I’m sorry – I wish I knew more!
    Take care,
    Becky

  4. I’m wondering if anyone knows anything about the one listed as ‘Spoirot Jaw’. There is no listing on Daffseek for anything but the plain ole ‘Spoirot’. I wonder if this is a typo and was supposed to be ‘Spoirot’ from Jan? I’ve emailed a note off to Brent & Becky, thought I know what a busy time of year this is for them!
Becky that daffy girl near Nashville

  5. We will see what we can find out on this from Jan and Ans when they arrive this weekend for the fall board meeting here in Nashville.  I'm afraid I was off riding bicycles through Jan's neighborhood (a quite enchanting trip!) while others were touring the fields of daffs.
