Substitute for card pins

When I go to a show were I cannot collect my card pins I use paper clips. They can be purchased inexpensively and are easy to carry in an exhibitor’s kit. If you unfold the outer most piece it will hold the card in the top and the bottom piece can be inserted in the test tube. If I didn’t explain this well let me know and I will show you my “trick” at the upcoming fall board meeting. I have shared this technique with many others in the past.
===>Another technique is to use a piece of index card, about 3″ x 1.5″. Fold it in half and cut two slits. Unfold it, write on it, and pull slightly on the band the cuts surround and slip it up the stem of the daffodil.

If you have pre-planned and have your cultivar names and Div/color code on address labels, stick the label on the index card stock after the slits are cut.

An advantage is that the card stays with the stem no matter what the local committee does to rearrange the displays on the tables. With a little practice, you soon learn how wide to make the cuts to keep the tag snug on the stem.

  1. Another advantage to Bill’s method is that you can put these labels on the stem when you cut the blooms, and no matter how you rearrange your collections, the name is still there. Mary Lou
