Friends, I need to brag on the GA Dept of Transportation. Beginning approximately 4 years ago, as part of their roadside beautification efforts, they began planting daffodils. It has been wildly successful, with almost 600,000 bulbs planted statewide, so far. Some of the plantings have been in highly visible locales such as on slopes that face the I-75/I-85 corridor through downtown Atlanta. On behalf of The Garden Club of Georgia (GCG), I have had a long standing interest in roadside beautification in our State, and GDOT and GCG have had a cooperative program to promote roadside beautification for almost 40 years. Lady Bird Johnson helped us get going, and we patterned our program after the one in Texas. Lady Bird attended the first awards luncheon, and again came to the 20th anniversary awards program. The recent effort to plant daffodils is just one part of the expansive program now underway.

Can we get some photographs of this sent to the media during next spring’s daffodil season?
