Bulb Information, Growing Daffodils

Not a message about cultivars, contests or the latest daffodil.
Just sending you the word that I'm putting in another 300 daffodils this fall.
Here's how it is getting done
50 degrees and windy days – plant 30
60 degree and cloudy days – plant 80
35 degree days – stare at bulbs longingly
Hope you all have a wonderful holiday with family and friends
though I blame your relentless daffyness for my obsession.
Especially Loyce McKenzie who encouraged you to let me into the discussion a few years ago.

    I hear that Loyce has been responsible for a bunch of people getting interested in daffodils. No surprise, but good for you for realizing that we are really nice people, just obsessed with daffodils.
    We have snow dusting the ground up here in Ohio.  I’m spending a little time looking at DaffSeek just to see pretty flowers.

    And in the rain, don shower cap, plastic trash bags, oldest clothes possible, and soldier on!!!

  3. I finally finished planting mine today!!!!!!!  Yeah, super yeah!!!  I wasn’t sure I could find a piece of ground for all the new ones I acquired.  The planting weather has been miserably cold this year.  Hope everyone else is close to the finish line.

  5. Omigosh! And here I am in zone 4, watching the occasional snowflake and wishing for a decent snow cover for the daffodils I planted up to the first of November!  

    And wondering what next with the four Division 8 pots I left under the sunroom all summer, didn’t bother to dump and reset them when I brought them into the garage no-freeze zone, gave them water too early so they shot up new growth almost immediately, then discovered mealybugs all through the old paper husks around the necks when they needed to be brought upstairs for light and warmth! 
    They’ve all been thoroughly sprayed with alcohol – in fact, two were dumped out completely, soaked for an hour or more in 1:10 alcohol and water, and set in bowls of river rock with roots splayed out underneath bulbs and in water. Any suggestions on what to do next other than keep watching for stray mealybugs and spray them with more alcohol?
    Never had this problem before with daffodils, but then I’ve never kept tazettas over the summer before either! They are Avalanche, Avalanche of Gold, Grand Monarque and Sugar Cups. Avalanche of Gold is the only one still in its original pot – the others are all in bowls of river rock and water. They’d better bloom after all this! Or should I switch them to vodka?!
