  1. Dear Fellow Daffnetters…

To say that our newest members, Margaret and Skip Ford are very active daffodil lovers is a huge understatement.  If it were not for the Fords and fellow Virginia Daffodil Society founders, George and Patty Bragdon, our Society headquartered at the Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden would have floundered long ago.  This weekend we had over 1,500 blooms exhibited at our annual show and the Fords were there from beginning to end.

Incidentally, many of you may remember that they won the British Award at the National Convention in Washington, DC when we celebrated the 50th anniversary of the ADS.

It is a singular honor for Betty and me to be able to welcome our two mentors and close personal friends to daffnet!

    Regards,

    Ross

  3. Welcome Margaret and Skip,
To let everyone know, Margaret and Skip are great daffodil “showers” —–how about a couple of Best in Show this season already…..and Margaret has a great Youth program going in Richmond VA. Welcome, Glenna

  4. And don’t forget that the Youth awards at the Richmond convention were won by their granddaughter and grandson who told me his favorite daffodil is Dreamlight.  No one could fault that selection.  Remind me of their names, please.  They will both be winning frequently in the future.

  5. The Ford grandchildren who were winners at Richmond: Kristi won the Small Growers award—-she has won all the Yourth Awards throughout the past years, and you may remember an article a few years ago about the Girl Scout project Kristi won an award with, teaching her young troop to grow daffodils. Her younger brother Will had the best Youth bloom with as lovely a bloom of ‘Salome’ as I have ever seen. And as a postscript, Skip is exulting today–Go, Tarheels!!! Loyce McKenzie

  6. Dear Loyce…

The Fords are everything everyone has said, and more.  However, I am sorry to have to correct one thing…well, at least expand Skip Ford’s educational background.  Yes, Skip does ‘bleed’ Carolina Blue, and he is a member in good standing of the famous Rams Club of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  However, he received his formal college education at a far older institution of higher learning, Hampden-Sydney College here in Virginia, which is still not co-ed…except on weekends!
    Betcha didn’t know that!

    Regards,

    Ross

PS  Please tell my boxwood “Hi!” for me!
