But then, here in Canberra it’s autumn, and the Colchicum byzantium and Sternbergia lutea beginning to flower are the first blooms in my newly planted rockery stage 1. There are daffodils in there too, and all being well, I’ll have pictures of them in 5-6 months. As you’ll see from the second photo, I’m not talking acres here – the total area available to me is only 5-6 times this patch. I’m experimenting with bulbs together with some arid-zone native plants I’ve collected and am testing for frost-hardiness. If anyone wants to know more, I’m happy to share.
