Short stems

Donna,
I find this quote from you very interesting, “If it is cold and then quickly warms up you will find short stems and short leaves.  This has nothing to do with fertilizer or no fertilizer or nitrogen or no nitrogen.  It is just a result of a quick warm up.”
Two years ago when we had our first little daffodil show in Utah, Nancy Gill suggested that I should cut the stems at “ground level” so they would show better.  I told her that “all” my blooms were cut at ground level.  She seemed very puzzled.  I think that your explaination may be the reason for all of my short stems.   The very cold and then a very quick warm up is pretty standard weather here in Stockton, Utah.  That makes me feel a lot better.
Thanks,
Mary
