There have been years or maybe it is the local location where the entire drifts of Van Sion will open like this or even better than this one bloom in this photo. Not sure how many thousands of bulbs are in this pasture but there were only about five of these with this much yellow.
I have actually bought some of these from European growers and the first year down bulbs bloomed in the spring with all of the doubling contained inside the trumpet and each bloom had distinctive petals and was quite the lovely bloom.
Then they reverted or converted to The Green Mop the following year. These shots were taken yesterday. Keith Kridler
