Threave has many ‘Southern Gem’, about half are planted in one mass
roughly the shape of a map of Scotland.

Nearby is Threave Castle (Historic Scotland), a massive 14th century tower built by Archibald the Grim, Lord of Galloway. Sounds like he would have been best avoided.
