‘Southern Gem’ at Threave – NTS garden in south-west Scotland

Threave has many ‘Southern Gem’, about half are planted in one mass
roughly the shape of a map of Scotland.

From the NTS website – (National Trust for Scotland)
“64-acre ornamental garden with interest throughout the year from a large and varied plant collection
and landscape features. A Scottish Baronial House open to the public. 1500-acre estate
with way marked trails, bird hides, and a wild fowl sanctuary”
Nearby is Threave Castle (Historic Scotland), a massive 14th century tower built by Archibald the Grim, Lord of Galloway.  Sounds like he would have been best avoided.
This is the first of three pictures from yesterday.
