bees, addendum

In the New York Times Home section last Thursday, there was an article that ground-burrowing bees are the primary pollinator in the US, albeit they are much more solitary… (under the article about using manure for fertilizer)

They didn’t talk about them getting poisoned off, did indicate that so far they’re not having the same problems with the hive collapse disorder.

Unfortunately there’s only one shot of a burrow, and no real technical discussion of what to look for, etc, so you know what to avoid/protect when putzying about the garden (or nuking the stew out of it…)
