What a difference a week – or the weather – makes

The attendance at the Chicago Botanic Garden on the Saturday and Sunday of our convention there recently was about 5,800, impeded by the weather.
Stephanie Lindemann at the CBG just told me that the attendance this past weekend was 7,000 on Saturday and 10,000 on Sunday.
Meanwhile, one of my favorites, Killearnan, is still not open at my house while John Reed had a beautiful vase of same in his barn during our visit at Oakwood Daffodils. That’s about 95 miles from here as the crow flies, only 25 miles south, but on the other side of Lake Michigan.

There’s no shame in 5800 visitors! At peak times questions from visitors to the show were flying! And when we tore the show down, a lot of visitors left with daffodils in their hands. GREAT PR!

  2. I gave some daffodils to a lady who was celebrating her 65th birthday with her sister.  She had come from Dunedin, New Zealand to Chicago.  I got her in touch with the Ramsay’s and with Spud Brogden.  She was very interested in how you breed daffodils and in having some in her garden.  She sent me some pictures of her garden which was magnificient.  I have encouraged her to join the New Zealand Daffodil Society.  Now, if we got one member for New Zealand among those 5800 visitors, I think it was a pretty good turnout.
