I’ve mentioned before that we have a fairly small block (mostly occupied by house), and here is a vista from the daffodil patch looking north. If you look very closely, you can see my lone winter daffodil through the leaves of the grass tree (top right).
The plants to the left of the grass tree are Patersonia occidentalis an evergreen bulb with purple flowers in spring. The spiky things in the gravel are ‘baby’ grass trees – only about eight years old. That’s their mum with the trunk. She is around 40-50 years old. The two different-coloured shrubby things behind the Gazania are two specimens of Sclerolaena I collected early this year near Broken Hill in far west New South Wales. I’m waiting for them to flower so that I can identify which species – they aren’t easy to tell apart, just like a number of daffodils.
