It was great John to see a photograph of the daffodil named after New Zealands greatest standardbred. Daffnetters may be interested to know that Cardigan Bay was the first racehorse in the world to win in excess of one million dollars in stakemoney. Coincidently Cardigan Bay was born today (September 1st) in 1956.

Doug  Olson  was  Rector  at  Gore  Highschool  before  retiring  to  Otaki  .
Gore  is  one of  the  bigger  country  towns  in  Southland  and  Cardigan  Bay  was  bred  in  the  deep  south .
Cardigan Bay  ,  a  standard  bred  race horse  was  the  pride  of  Southland ;  indeed  the  pride  of  N Z  in  the
60 s,  winning  many  races  and  setting  records  (  both for  time  and  also earnings )  in  New  Zealand ,  Australia
and  also  racing  and  winning  on  the  famous  U S A  racetracks …
A  useful  yellow  trumpet  with  a  proud  heritage .
