In bloom today

We have had the first rains of the season and the autumn daffodils are starting to gear up. Here is a pot of daffodils of N. cavanellesii. This was one bulb in 1999 so it has taken 10 years to make a nice clump.
The other flower is a first bloom seedling from N. cavanellesii x N. viridiflorus. The seed was planted in 2003 so it has taken its time! Typical of crosses between viridiflorus which is a blue-grey-green and a yellow species we get a greeny-yellow. The short corona of the green parent is further reduced.

  1. They look suspiciously like Star of Bethlehem to me, I wonder if there’s a genetic link in there somewhere?
