Utah Pics – copper mine

Mary and I went early and took a couple of very neat tours. Here is a pic of the Bingham copper mine, visible from space.
The little black spots on the tiers near the right center, others closer along the road, are Caterpillar 50 ton trucks about 50 feet high. Their tires are 12 1/2 feet in diameter. There are 70 of them, 2 dumping a load per minute, 24/7. Water from the mine is captured at 30,000 gal/min and sold to localities in the area. The gold and silver captured as a by-product pays the overhead, but copper is the main product and has been since about 1906.
That hole is bigger than it looks. It’s another kind of nature.
