Blooming Today – Toru

Friends,
‘Toru’ 8 W-W (although is classified 8 W-Y,  it is practically dead here before it passes to  8 W-W) ) was hybridized by William R. P. Welch but grown, selected, and named by Max Hamilton (NZ), I believe.  Peter will correct me here if I have any of my facts wrong.    It has been in bloom over a week and has been rained on and experienced frost.  You can tell that it has been out a long time as there is a green pod (ovary) near the top of the scape of a floret that has already passed.  The foliage is unbelievably vigorous and the bulbs are huge.
