Dear Daffodil Friends, it is with much sadness that I relay a notice I have just received about the deaths of ADS Life Members, the sisters, Sally and Bonnie Hohn, of Staunton, VA. Our records don’t show when Sally and Bonnie became ADS members, but notes indicate they became Life Members in 1980. The notice came from their Estate Executor. The gentleman indicated that Bonnie died on DEC 10, 09, and that Sally had predeceased her. I remember these two sisters attending conventions held in the Middle Atlantic area and they were fascinating tablemates. I think I recall that they were often seen with and traveled with Virginia Perry, also hailing from Staunton. I recall a luncheon meeting at an ADS Convention, many years back, with Virginia Perry, as she was ADS Membership Chair. Bonnie and Sally were there, too. I innocently asked why it was that The Garden Club of VA did not belong to ADS, and why you couldn’t just “join” GCV. Virginia and the Hohn sisters were kind, and explained it to me the best they could. Bill Pannill later gave me a clearer picture of the situation. “Jaydee,” he said, “There are people in VA that are still loyal to the Queen.” Thus my education in such matters began, under the tutelage of the wise Mr. Pannill. I’m sure others from VA will have more details about the Hohn sisters, but I believe they were both university educators at one of the very VA fine girl’s schools? I can’t remember if they were twins? So we are saddened to learn of this news, and I will respond to the Executor on behalf of ADS. Would anyone with more specifics about Bonnie and Sally, contact me privately, so I won’t have to rely on my memory from so many years ago? I think it would be nice for ADS to let the Executor know how special Bonnie and Sally were to us, and that we mourn their loss.
