Soil conditioners etc. & Summer Blooms.

Dear Daffnetters

thankyou for your comments which make a lot of sense. I had heard that mushroom compost was a ‘nono’  but now I’ll leave the other mix alone too as I do not have space for fallow beds unfortunately.

John’s comments reminded me that I do have a small sack of used Cat litter labelled “Attapulgite” (tradename) which might be OK to dig in. It is a white, very absorbent natural granular chip and advertised as being recyclable in gardens and useful as a mulch. The obvious concentration of cat urine concerned me and when I tried to wash it and dry in the sun  it had a strong smell. I do mix it in when making compost myself. Probably it is best left for a year too. Any comments on this one?

Congratulations to Wayne, Spud & Joy and David for their beautiful blooms and amazing colours. When I think of the weather we’ve experienced this year, their growth is a miracle. They certainly cheer us all up and Dame Edna would be envious too.

Regards
