  1. Looks like a bumble bee of some sort to me, Melissa. Look in the Judges’ Handbook at the photo of the fly. It doesn’t have the 2 long feelers in the front.

    Bulb flies don’t have yellow on them, either.  Since you are just at the start of your season, the bulb flies should not be out yet.  They come out at the end of the season.  This looks like a bee, as Mary Lou said.
    That said, keep an eye out, especially when you have just purchased a number of new ones.
