Fortuna Show – Lavender Ribbon winner

The best collection of 5 miniatures excluding the American-bred collection was exhibited by yours truly. The flowers are
Aysha 6W-W Spring Serenade 5Y-Y Junior Miss 12W-Y Baby Boomer 12Y-Y Sweet Angel 10W-W
Aysha may be unfamiliar to those of you who don’t live in New Zealand. It is one of Colin Crotty’s miniatures.
(Time to go to lunch. There are only 7 more pictures to come later today.)

  1. The DTSG lists Baby Boomer as a division 7. Daffseek says it’s division 8. Now you’ve listed it as a division 12. What is it true division?

  2. It’s Division 8. It was listed in DTSG before it was registered, and the photo in the catalog looked like it was Div. 7. It was registered as Div. 8 in 2008, though it was available before that date. Mary Lou

  3. Dear all
I have great difficulties with this variety, Terry has grown it for about 5 or 6 years and on our plot it is identical to x intermedius in form and habit so there is a lot of n.jonquilla in it in its wild form, but it is a intersectional and so you could classify it as a Div 12, I would have sooner left it as a selection of intermedius as a Div 13. Wait until you have Baby Boomer and intermedius in the same class which requires 12 distinct varieties from hybrids and species them the fun will start.

  4. Roger and all,
    N. x intermedius is a wild hybrid and not all clones of it will necessarily be the same. The N. x intermedius I grow is starry and has some color in the cup. ‘Baby Boomer’, being a seedling from the cross ‘Avalanche’ x N. jonquilla, should be the same wherever it’s grown. So ‘Baby Boomer’ and your form of N. x intermedius might be similar, and might make interesting companions in a collection class, but mine would be distinct.
I actually have more problems with N. jonquilla, N. jonquilla ‘Pine Mills Form’ and N. jonquilla ‘Mississippi Form’ all being shown in the same class as 13 Y-Y. Are they not all N. jonquilla? Unless someone wants to register the various forms as selections in Div. 7?
    Mary Lou
