New Zealand’s Historics sections question

Hey Lesley & NZ’ers –

Two questions~
a) apologies, but I don’t remember what your Historics section dates are currently – could you (or someone else) remind me?
b) what is the logic of 1960 as an end-date?

Folks here seem inclined to go to c.1969/1970, but I don’t know why. I’ve also not talked to any hybridiziers to see what they think is a good watershed year. As NZ has apparently already started having serious discussions on the matter, I’d very much like to know; I also think there’s some value to everyone being on the same page, so to speak.
Thanks in advance –

1. Cultivars pre 1900 to be known as Heritage
2. Cultivars 1900 – 1939 to be known as Vintage
3. Cultivars 1940 – 1960 known as Classic
4. Trophy Class – 3 Heritage, 3 Vintage, 3 Classic, One or more varieties, 3 vases
There is still some debate on whether the Trophy class should be for six or nine but the rest has been approved.

  1. Those interested in historics, One concern I have , that has been echoed by others who judge, is that historics are often judged to perfection of the current trends rather than perfection of the variety or cultivar displayed. That is why Beryl is a good example. I would like some thought put into this matter. Sincerely, Nancy R. Wilson
