year by year reduction of blooms in N. obvallaris

During the past couple of years, I’ve gone from planting “monocultures” of N. obvallaris,  Arctic Gold and Standard Value to planting groups of different daffodils, some species and some cultivars in flower beds or along the edges of the lawn.  What I noticed only with N. obvallaris is this:  during the first spring, nearly all of the bulbs had wonderful and sturdy blossoms, during the second spring (and after some replanting, which I have done with nearly all of the other daffodils to, rearranging plantings again and again!), only about 30% of the N. obvallaris had blooms and now, in the beginning of the third season, I only have three blossoms left out of 200 bulbs originally planted.  I don’t “feed” any of my daffodils or any other plants.  I’m simply too lazy.  What should I make of the N. obvallaris?  Should I wait one or two more years to see what happens or do I have to assume that all other cultivars fair well in our garden, with the exception of N. obvallaris?  Or, do I have bad bulbs?  Last spring, while replanting, I did intentionally slice through several of the bulbs of N. obvallaris.  All bulbs were firm and glossy inside with no visible signs of sickness.
