Erythronium Pioneer Mountain Strain

Friend and noted daffodil breeder Walter Blom has also hybridized with Erythronium species. Below is a photo of his newly released strain named Erythronium Pioneer Mountain strain. It is a cross of Erythronium revolutum x Erythronium johnsonii. Almost all of the strain shows some silver patterning as in E. revolutum with some intensity of color from the extremely rare E. johnsonii. Both of the species Walter used are from plants originating very high in the southern Oregon Cascade Mountains. The E. johnsonii was found on Pioneer Mountain and was/is a deep dark red. The hybrids range from a soft yet rich pinky-purple to darker red purples. Very beautiful and quite different. Commented on here in the garden as the silver barred foliage remains long after the striking flowers have passed.

Will have some available on the Cherry Creek Daffodils WEB site in late April or early May.
