Red Cup Poet cross

Attached is a photo of V98-199-6. It is a cross of: [(Bon Bon x Phebe) x Red Hugh]. I would color code it as 9W-OOR. Not too many of this type exist.

The flower diameter is about 56mm. If you look closely, a wire red rim is at the corona edge. In theory it is from “pure” poet breeding although ‘Cushendall’ (registered as a 3W-GWW even though its breeding is ‘Dactyl’ x ‘Raeburn’; both poets) is a great grandparent. There are a few others from this cross that are being closely watched. The color value is quite dark red as it opens. Color lightens to an orange/red as it ages. The cup burns in your field if your next door neighbor opens his refrigerator and the little light goes on…….

Best,
Steve Vinisky

  1. So, Steve, do you pick them young and let them open indoors? How do you handle something that burns so easily? Yes, it is very nice! Love the color!
