forgotten bulbs

This question has probably already been answered, but….
A neighbor told me she had just found some daffodil bulbs in her basement. Last fall she had put them ‘in a safe place’ while having landscaping done, and totally forgot to plant them. Is it worth planting them this fall, or is it entirely too late? Vicky Charlottesville VA [where the summers are hot & humid, & winters are cold & dry]

  1. I am guessing that it probably depends on what the bulbs feel like.  If there is still some substance to them, they will grow.  If they are completely dessicated, and there is no solid material left in the bulb, they probably won’t grow.

  2. I expect it is better to try with new bulbs-
these are certainly worth planting- at least
a few ought to srvive if you plant them in the fall.
But I would expect them to take three or more
years to grow enough to bloom.
